China has increasingly dedicated it's forces to securing power over Hong Kong. The region was always supposed to have national security law, but none have been instituted fully due to widespread unpopularity. Recently, however China implemented the new National Security Law of Hong Kong (whose 66 articles were kept under wraps until it was passed), which seeks to tighten control over Hong Kong and to eliminate all possible threats to Chinese authority. The law, which specifically targets the pro-democracy protests, prohibits acts of treason, secession, sedition, subversion against Beijing, and any activities that would “seriously endanger national security”, including “foreign interference”. Chinese state-security agencies will also be allowed to operate in Hong Kong to enforce the law.

Here are 13 key provisions of the new law (in graphic form):

The future of Hong Kong is unclear, but the new law is a massive blow to the pro-democracy freedom movements. Nevertheless, the people of Hong Kong keep fighting for their rights and their homeland. #powerbetohongkong
